KPV: Peptide Sequence, Laboratory Research and Documentation

By Aurevia Research18 September 20263 min read

KPV is the three-residue peptide sequence lysine–proline–valine. In laboratory literature, it is discussed as a short fragment associated with alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). Reviewing KPV research starts with the exact molecular form, the experimental model and the measurement—not a broad claim about what the peptide does.

What does the KPV sequence mean?

The one-letter amino acid codes K, P and V denote lysine, proline and valine. A 2008 primary study describes KPV as Lys-Pro-Val and investigates its uptake through the peptide transporter PepT1. Dalmasso et al., Gastroenterology, 2008.

The sequence abbreviation should be read alongside a material’s stated terminal groups, stereochemistry and chemical form. Those details belong in an identity review; a short name alone is not a complete material specification.

What did the PepT1 study examine?

The investigators used intestinal epithelial cell lines and Jurkat T cells to study transport and cellular responses under defined stimulation conditions. Their measurements included uptake experiments, a reporter assay, Western blotting, real-time RT-PCR and ELISA. They reported PepT1-mediated transport and changes in NF-?B and MAP kinase signaling and cytokine secretion in the tested systems. The paper also included mouse experiments. These are model-specific findings, not evidence that a separately supplied KPV material is suitable for human use. Read the study record.

How should KPV findings be interpreted?

Keep the experimental questions separate. Transport asks whether material enters cells through a particular route. A signaling assay measures a pathway-associated response. A secretion assay measures a substance released into the sampled medium. One result does not automatically establish the others.

When comparing papers, record the model, controls, material identity, endpoint and limitations. A result in a cultured cell line should not be presented as a general outcome across organisms. This article is a focused introduction to one primary study, not a comprehensive review of the literature.

What should a KPV certificate of analysis identify?

A useful documentation review connects the report to the specific supplied lot. Ask:

  • Does the lot number match the material label?
  • Are sequence, terminal groups and chemical form explicitly stated?
  • Which analytical results support the assigned identity?
  • What method and reporting basis produced the purity result?
  • Is content measured separately when required by the planned work?
  • Are the issuing laboratory, dates and report identifiers clear?

These are suggested review questions, not a claim that all suppliers perform the same tests. See our certificate of analysis guide for a practical review framework.

Why is a purity percentage only part of the picture?

A material can have a reported chromatographic result while leaving questions about identity, reporting basis or lot traceability unresolved. Read the actual method and results before making comparisons. Our HPLC purity guide explains why purity and quantitative content should be assessed separately.

Frequently asked questions

What does KPV stand for?

KPV denotes the amino acid sequence lysine–proline–valine.

Does a KPV paper validate a supplier’s lot?

No. A paper reports on its own study material. A different lot needs relevant analytical documentation.

Are cell-model findings human benefit claims?

No. Cell-model observations describe the tested experimental system and do not establish a benefit in people.

Where should a documentation review begin?

Start with the exact material identity and lot number, then review each result alongside its method and reporting basis.
